AI Puzzler is a family game showcasing puzzles designed by Alexey Pajitnov, the famed designer of Tetris. Its predecessor, Pandora’s Box, was a critically well-received game, but did not get a lot of promotion, so Microsoft decided to re-use the puzzle engine to create a tie-in game for the movie AI: Artificial Intelligence, for which they had the exclusive game development license. In addition to offering a whole set of new puzzles for Pajitnov’s fans, the game would serve as an interactive movie tie-in, giving players access to film content such as behind-the-scenes photos and models of objects from the AI world. The game was successfully completed and ready to ship at the time of the movie’s release; however, the film was not successful at the box office, Microsoft withdrew their license, and the finished game was never released to the public.
I served as producer on this title as well as working on the design. We designed the visual interface and the game architecture based on concept art from the film.
