Here's the view when the player isn't engaged in a specific minigame, and places characters on the deck of the ship. Each character has an on-screen representation that can be moved around by physically moving the toy piece. The motion of the character piece determined walk cycles in eight directions of movement.

By placing a character piece behind the captain's wheel, the player could sail the ship through a magical pirate world with adventures at every turn. Here the character Ollie steers the ship toward the home island, Port Plunder.
By swordfighting skeletons, shooting sea monsters with the cannon, and dodging icebergs, the player racks up treasure which is stored in this device in the ship's hold. When the contraption is full of treasure, it frees the captive pirate Redbeard. Players access the ship's hold by placing a character on the hatch entrance.
